The Grand Canyon Skywalk: what it is and whether it’s worth it
What the experience is like
You put covers over your shoes (to protect the glass), step out onto the U-shaped walkway, and look straight down through the floor to the canyon below. It opened in 2007 on Hualapai land and is engineered to hold far more weight than it will ever carry — the fear is purely psychological. Staff photographers take pictures you can buy afterwards, since personal cameras aren’t allowed on the bridge.
Is it worth the extra money?
Honestly, it depends on you. If walking on glass over a 4,000-foot drop sounds exciting, it’s a memorable add. If you mainly want the view, the free overlooks at Guano Point and Eagle Point are arguably more beautiful — and you can use your own camera. Many visitors are glad they did it once; few feel they missed out by skipping it.
The Skywalk is on the West Rim, the closest part of the canyon to Vegas.
