How long is the Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas?
Short answer: a West Rim day trip runs about 9 to 10 hours door to door, with roughly 3–4 hours at the canyon. A South Rim tour is a long day — about 14 to 15 hours. Helicopter tours are a half day, and Antelope Canyon combos run 13–14 hours.
Time by tour type
| Tour | Total day | Time at the canyon |
|---|---|---|
| West Rim coach | ~9–10 h | ~3–4 h |
| South Rim coach | ~14–15 h | ~3 h |
| Helicopter (air + landing) | ~4–5 h | ~30–60 min at floor |
| Antelope Canyon & Horseshoe Bend | ~13–14 h | ~2–3 h on sights |
Why the South Rim takes so long
The South Rim is nearly 280 miles from Las Vegas, so most of the day is the drive there and back. That is exactly why an organised tour makes sense for the South Rim — you sleep on the coach instead of white-knuckling a 10-hour round-trip drive. The West Rim, at half the distance, leaves far more of the day for the canyon itself.
Can you do it in less time?
Yes — a helicopter tour is the fastest way to see the canyon and be back on the Strip by lunch. For the most canyon time per hour spent, the West Rim is the sweet spot.
