The best time to visit the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas

Short answer: the best time is spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) — mild temperatures, clear skies and smaller crowds than summer. Summer is hot, especially at the desert West Rim; winter is quiet and can be beautiful, but the higher South Rim sometimes sees snow.

Season by season

Spring & fall (best)

Comfortable days, cool mornings, and the clearest light for photos. These shoulder seasons avoid both the summer heat and the winter chill, which is why tours fill up — book ahead.

Summer (hot)

The West Rim is desert: June to August can hit 95–105°F. The South Rim, at about 7,000 feet, stays cooler (70s–80s) but is busier. Bring serious sun protection and water either way.

Winter (quiet)

Crowds thin out and prices soften. The West Rim stays mild but cold in the morning; the South Rim can get snow, which makes for stunning photos but occasional road delays.

Best time of day

Morning tours beat the heat and the haze, and early light makes the canyon walls glow. That’s also why most coach tours leave the Strip between 6 and 7 am.
